Is Intel's Core 2 Duo Processor Worth the Hype?

In the months leading to the release of Core 2 Duo processor - also referred to as "the" Conroe for desktops - many questions remain unanswered. Did Intel make the necessary changes to compete with AMD processors benefit?

According to Intel, WDE delivers more instructions per second fraction of execution time and improve energy efficiency. Each execution core is 33% higher than the previous generation, allowing each core to download, dispatch, execute and retire up to four full instructions simultaneously.

Current version of Extreme - X6800 - has an unlocked multiplier, which means the clock multiplier can be adjusted higher or lower than 11.0x (derived from the 11:1 ratio of the maximum Intel tested bus-to-core processors). That the technology for the Intel chip is a little treading new zemlju.X6800 has shown the ability to have an over-the 3.4 GHz on a regular heat-sink/fan air hlađenje.Over-stroke is a first for Intel and a big win for hands on users such as high-end players.

Benchmarking tests in multimedia and games have proven that the X6800 can bring the best AMD CPU to 36 percent in performance.

The new chips are smaller and cheaper to produce than Intel's Pentium D900 series, and they are much smaller than the Athlon 64 X2s despite packing more tranzistora.Manji die and the greater amount of production facilities creates more pricing flexibility for Intel than AMD.

Core 2 Duo technology enables compatibility with existing systems and creates versatility.

upgraders and system manufacturers can set up a Core 2 Duo chips into some current Pentium D / EE (LGA775) motherboard with some BIOS / firmware updates.

Another important feature is the security platform Core 2 Duo chips provide. Before leaving on a Core 2 Duo processor, desktop computers are only the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) protection built into the system. Now, with Core 2 Duo, all PCs have the TPM. In hardware, all passwords, login and personal information is protected from hackers, spyware and identity thieves.

Allendale, codename for stripped-down versions of the Conroe processors with 2MB L2 cache, and Merom, with mostly the same features as Conroe, focusing on lower power consumption to enhance notebook battery life.

In short, Intel's release of Core 2 Duo processor comes as advertised, how fast and energy efficient. With more training Core 2 on the road - and AMD is preparing to launch its answer to Conroe with "4x4" chip (systems can use a pair of high-end dual-core chips) - which is considered fast now will be slow ubudućnost.
